The 2022 Annual Congress of Iceberg partner AIPC was held this July in Budapest. In a video triple bill, AIPC CEO Sven Bossu introduces both his association and its event. Two further videos explore the AIPC Future Shapers program, with two teams of emerging leaders presenting solutions at the congress to leave lasting legacies in the sector.

For the first time since 2019, the 2022 AIPC Annual Congress had a truly global audience. 125 senior leaders from 42 countries, representing 81 organisations, gathered together for the exciting three day meeting. This year’s team was “Shaping The Future”, and CEO Sven Bossu explains both the aims of the International Association of Convention Centres, its membership, its collaboration on training with other industry bodies, its growth strategy, and its approach to welcoming in emerging young talent.

AIPC’s Future Shapers program supports the development of high performers within the community and helps them think and act like leaders. Those accepted into the scheme get free admission to the Congress and take part in a team challenge there.

At the 2022 AIPC Annual Congress, the inaugural Future Shapers intake completed their nine month accelerated leadership program, competing in two teams to convince industry chiefs to invest in and choose one of two solutions to challenges currently faced by the industry.

One team worked on a collaboration and event management portal built by venue experts for the event management professional. EventShaper would provide integrated, end-to-end services including booking, communication, event design and account management planning tools using real time data, so all parties stay informed, organised and connected.

The other team came up with a venue business optimisation solution which assists sales teams within convention centres to streamline approval processes and reduce resources needed for RFPs. Optimum would be designed to increase productivity by managing yield more efficiently, maximising revenue and reaching the market quickly.

Team EventShaper competes with Team Optimum.

The transformative platforms dreamed up by Team EventShaper and Team Optimum may well outlive the congress. There was genuine and serious interest from attendees in the future development of these tools and the legacies they might leave. There was also great consensus that the Future Shapers program was itself leaving a legacy that would last a long time.
