Dubai’s meetings dominance continued in 2017. The emirate won a record 212 bids and proposals, a 61 percent increase on 2016. One of the world’s leading independent events organisers, London based Clarion Events, has completed a merger with exhibition and online B2B marketplace operator Global Sources, based in Hong Kong. The Sarawak Convention Bureau secured 89 business events in 2017 (60 bids won, 29 supported) to be held over the next four years. IMEX Group Managing Director Paul Flackett, a meetings industry pioneer whose career spanned over three decades, has died after a long illness. Flackett worked with Ray Bloom to found EIBTM in 1987.
