City leaders in Dundee want to “open its doors to the world” with business events. Scotland’s fourth largest city has won six “major” conferences for 2019 through its Dundee & Angus Convention Bureau Conference Ambassadors. Auckland Convention Bureau has won NZ$45 million of business events in the year ending June 2018. More than 100 meetings have been secured, all being held over the next nine years. The Perth Convention Bureau has secured AU$141.8 million in direct delegate expenditure for financial year 2017/18, exceeding its target of AU$137.7 million. The Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre has recorded its best economic performance for a sixth consecutive year. In 2017/18 it brought AU$372 million into the region, an increase of 14 percent on 2016/17. 154 events attracted over 722,000 guests to the centre, which is also discussing expansion with the Queensland state government. A vote has cleared the way for expansion to start on the Las Vegas Convention Center, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau. London venues have told MPs they need more support from the UK government to grow the events industry. The QEII Centre’s net economic contribution to the UK was £145 million, a growth of 45 percent in just two years. That’s according to a new Grant Thornton study.
