VisitBritain is calling for grant applications for its programme to secure new international business events for the United Kingdom and to grow the economic value of existing events. Australia’s New South Wales Government will fund a total of eighteen Diploma of Event Management scholarships this year. The awards are targeted at those in rural and regional NSW. Following the first Dubai Association Conference in December, the Centre now has a total of 58 licensed associations, with sixteen registrations received since January. The Northern Territory Department of Tourism and Culture in Australia has appointed KPMG to deliver the first long-term strategic plan for the business events sector. The UK saw an estimated £18.1 billion of direct expenditure generated by delegates in venues and wider destination spend in 2017, according to the new UK Conference and Meeting Survey. The Wisconsin Center District board of directors has shown expansion plans, analysis and conceptual renderings for Milwaukee’s Wisconsin Center. The plans add between 157,000 and 172,000 square feet to existing space. The cost of the project is estimated at between $247 million and $277 million. The AU$176 million expansion of the Cairns Convention Centre has been given the go-ahead following the Queensland Budget.
