Over $80 million of public benefits, including affordable housing, cycling, pedestrian and road projects, have been agreed by the Washington State Convention Center as part of its planned $1.6 billion expansion in downtown Seattle. UK meetings spend is reaching new heights, according to the first HBAA Meetings Barometer. Average spend is up of 31 percent in the first half of 2017 from the same period in 2016. Just as over 5,000 cruise industry workers were in town attending Seatrade Europe, Hamburg announced that it received three million business event overnight stays in 2016. The rebranded Glasgow Convention Bureau won 526 conferences between 2016 and 2017, which will bring in an estimated £142m to the city’s economy.
