Founder and Chair of the Centre for Events and Festivals, Dr Mike Duignan provides academic credibility to the recently released Canadian Legacy & Impact Study Final Report, stating, “This is a simple but rigorous framework of legacy drivers.” Duignan argues that there is a critical need for alignment between governments, DMOs, event owners and organisers, especially with regard to long-term impacts, and this model provides the mechanism to achieve this, enabling all parties to create and articulate a common story about the purpose of the event and what impacts it aims to achieve. “The study shows you can achieve wild and wonderful things” – intellectual capital outcomes, social capital goals.
