Old Dog, New Bone: What now for Melbourne Chief?

Outgoing CEO at the Melbourne Convention Exhibition Centre (MCEC), Peter King, reflects on the needs of the business events sector to have a ‘North Star’ upon which to attract talent. In a parting message, the former AIPC president hints that he still has a significant contribution to make to the broader wellbeing of the sector’s resourcing and career appeal. “Covid has exposed the sector,” he says. “We’ve got to create serious development opportunities for people, we’ve got to pay them appropriately, we’ve got to respect their work/life balance, we’ve got to train them properly, and we’ve got to create careers for them,” he says.

The Iceberg is en-route to Melbourne for the Asia-Pacific Incentives and Meetings Event (AIME) gathering where King will join other leaders to address the post-Covid skills gap and other issues following the spectacular return of in-person business and professional events.
