AMBASSADOR WATCH: BESydney in Social Impact Drive

Business Events Sydney (BESydney) released a comprehensive report to close 2023 reflecting on the direct and indirect contribution of business events to the City of Sydney and New South Wales economy. The report reveals a strong emphasis on delivering social impact through events in addition to sectoral development and the direct economic, or consumption economy, impacts derived from them. Working with leading social impact consultancy, #MEET4IMPACT, and media partner, Skift, the destination development organisation has maintained strong links with government and policy think tank, the Committee for Sydney, revealing a fully integrated approach to accelerating the strategic goals of government through events.

BESydney Year in Review

This time last year, The Iceberg visited the Committee for Sydney Summit to learn the strategic role of business events in building capacity, attracting investment and talent, and building the international connections required to drive growth in key sectors such as fintech. You can watch the report featuring Lyn Lewis-Smith (pictured above) and fellow Iceberg Ambassador, Geoff Donaghy – CEO of ICC Sydney – here:

The Iceberg will be returning to Sydney later this month. Featuring in the report will be Inga Davison, BESydney’s Research and Insights Manager who oversaw the UTS editions of ‘Beyond Tourism Benefits- A Social Legacy’, and ‘The Power of Conferences’ and who is working with #M4I to connect with the local social impact ecosystem to advance impacts beyond what she describes as “the sugar hit of tourism”. Look out for the report in The Iceberg’s March edition of Business Events World.

Meanwhile, learn more about the BESydney social impact strategy featuring Davison in the December edition of ‘Feeling the Pulse – Exploring Impact and Legacy’ by the GDS-Movement and #MEET4IMPACT hosted by Inge Krogh Larsen and Jessica Vandy which also featured leading #sustainability and #impact professionals from Failte Ireland, Meet in Ireland, Glasgow Convention Bureau, Gothenburg Convention Bureau, and VISITFLANDERS Convention Bureau here:
