The Iceberg Publishes Second JMIC Case Study

The second of a series of high-level academic case studies investigating meetings legacies has been published on The Iceberg and Business Events World.

The report has been prepared as part of the Joint Meetings Industry Council’s Case Study Program – see the video below – and adheres to strict academic criteria. It is research-based, includes valid measurable data, and has been approved by JMIC’s international academic review panel.

Zoom-in on the First-ever Swiss Fintech Corner Setup at Sibos 2016 in Geneva, the new study by the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland (HES – SO), examines the legacy cross-pollination between a group of start-ups exhibiting during Sibos 2016 in Geneva and the delegate audience attending the huge financial services event.

Sibos 2016 took place in Palexpo, Geneva from 26th to 29th September. For the first time in the event’s history it hosted a Swiss Fintech Corner, set up with the help of the Economic Development Office (EDO) of Geneva, Alp ICT and the Swiss Finance & Technology Association.

According to Head of Sibos Sven Bossu “the entire idea around the Fintech corner was to promote Switzerland as a Fintech hub and to connect local Fintech companies with the global financial institutions.”.

This matches the strategy of the Geneva Convention Bureau. Its Director Anja Loetscher explained “we as the Convention Bureau align our work according the EDO’s clusters – one of them being finance.”.

Michael Kleiner, Economic Development Officer for the State of Geneva, affirmed “we could invite Swiss bankers, private bankers from Geneva… …for an evening to an event on that Fintech Corner. This allowed us to make a link between the local Geneva bankers and the start-up companies that were on the corner and that was for us maybe the biggest challenge… to create that link between the local finance industry and the local start-up industry.”.
