The Joint Meetings Industry Council has announced the winner of the 2017 JMIC Profile and Power Award as Isabel Bardinet, CEO of the Eurpoean Society of Cardiology. The award was made in recognition of her longstanding role as an outspoken advocate for redefining the value of meetings and events in terms of their broader professional and societal outcomes.
“From her evolving roles within the Meetings Industry to leader of one of the most important medical associations in the world today, Ms. Bardinet has been a consistent advocate for developing more relevant ways of identifying, measuring and advancing the values of what meetings, congresses and conferences achieve in broader professional and academic terms as opposed to simply their economic impacts”, said Joachim Koenig, President of JMIC. “Much of what she advocated years ago has become mainstream industry thinking today and it is important we recognize such leadership in a time of such an important transition”.
Koenig added “She promoted these views not only within her own organizations and through professional groups like AC Forum but to the broader industry and other public and governmental audiences as well. At the same time, she has been active in pursuing the documentation of better measures for event outcomes, which is a critical part of supporting the new industry value proposition, as well as in overall professional education initiatives. Together these achievements make her an exemplary recipient of this important award”.
The JMIC Power and Profile Award was established by the Council as a way of recognizing individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions to advancing the awareness and influence of the Meetings Industry in their respective communities. The winner is selected each year based on criteria which evaluate the efforts of an individual or organization in increasing industry profile and bringing about structural or policy changes that reflect that better appreciation.
