Head of Tourism and Conventions, Glasgow Convention Bureau

Aileen has worked in the meetings industry for over 20 years, initially in venue sales for Glasgow Museums, then in a variety of roles within the Conventions team at the Tourist Board, Glasgow City Marketing Bureau and is currently the Head of Tourism and Conventions at Glasgow Convention Bureau, Glasgow Life.

The Glasgow Convention Bureau focus on attracting and supporting association conferences to Glasgow through in-depth research and strategic bidding. The team are also responsible for the Glasgow Conference Ambassador Programme, a free accommodation booking service and offer a wide range of free client support initiatives to help associations deliver their vision and mission when meeting in Glasgow. In 2021 Glasgow Convention Bureau was voted ‘Best UK Convention Bureau’ for a record breaking 15 consecutive years by readers of Meetings & Incentive Travel and the team are also past winners of the ABPCO Chairmen’s Award for their work on conference legacy and impact.

Glasgow Convention Bureau is targeted with delivering economic impact and conference legacy to Glasgow by working closely with conference organisers, key stakeholders, major venues, such as the Scottish Event Campus and the city’s academic community.

In 2016, Glasgow was the first UK city to join the Global Destination Sustainability Index, currently ranking 4th in the world of Tourism and Conference cities.

Aileen has served as Depute Chair of ICCA UK & Ireland and is currently ICCA Destination Co-Chair, alongside Corne Koch from Cape Town Convention Bureau.  Aileen is involved in best practice and meeting industry collaboration in the UK and internationally.
